EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

In case of emergency, please follow these important steps

Contact DAN as soon as possible via any of the available channels (phone, email, app, accident form)

Important: if you are in a dangerous or life-threatening situation, call the local emergency service or go to the nearest hospital first.

Follow the instructions provided by the DAN Europe via phone or email (check your spam folder too).

If you haven’t already done so, you’ll be asked to submit the online accident form. Please keep a copy of all medical reports, invoices and receipts.
Important: if you’re incapacitated, you’ll still get assistance from DAN Europe until you or someone on your behalf can take care of the form.

If you are also covered by other insurance policies, remember to inform the other company as well.

RECOMMENDATIONS
  • Keep your personal contacts details up to date on your MyDAN
  • If you travel within Europe, make sure to have your European Health Insurance Card with you.
  • In case of medical visits, ask for a copy of your medical records, and keep any paid receipts.
  • Notify the medical emergency to any private medical insurance you hold.
Questions and Answers
Why is it important that I contact DAN Europe as soon as possible?
  • You get to talk with expert doctors;

  • You are informed about the best facility nearby and how to get there;

  • You receive support to arrange your medical evacuation.

  • You may have medical expenses taken care of, so that you don’t have to pay upfront;

Will I be able to get assistance in my own language?
  • Yes, our diving medical officers can provide assistance in over 20 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish.

  • When you call the Alarm Center, an English-speaking operator will initially gather your basic information (name, location, contacts).

  • Following that, the operator will reroute your call to a diving medical officer who speaks your language, based on availability.

If I’m unable to make phone calls, how can I request assistance?

You can count on an array of alternative channels:

  • You can send an urgent help request, along with your GPS location, via the “SOS” button on the DAN App. We will then promptly contact you by phone and email.

  • You can place a call via the internet.

  • You can fill in the online form.

Also, you can send an email to emergency@daneurope.org. In that case, please always specify:

  • Your location;

  • The problem you are experiencing;

  • A telephone number we can reach you at (no whatsapp/skype);

Will DAN Europe directly cover my medical expenses or am I supposed to pay first and claim later?
  • Whenever possible, the insurer directly takes on the covered medical expenses, so that you do not have to pay upfront. For this to be feasible, make sure to provide the documentation which DAN Europe will request by email.

  • Having said that, direct payment is not always possible – for instance, it is not possible in relation to small amounts or outpatient care.

  • In such cases, you can claim later for the expenses that you had to bear (to that end, make sure you have all medical reports and proofs of payment).
